I have always wanted something different for my wedding food. I was sick of the typical wedding food that consisted of some sort of chicken, prime rib, mashed potatoes, and steamed vegetables. Not only is wedding food usually predictable, it also rarely starts a conversation. Our food truck themed wedding had a light-hearted atmosphere and allowed guests to get up, mingle, and talk about something everyone loves: good food!
I am so lucky that my husband jumped right on board with the idea and put his trust in my vision. Throughout the planning process, I usually got two reactions from people; "What a unique idea...."(implying: are you crazy?!) or "THAT IS AWESOME!" I think more people were perplexed by the outlandish idea than actually understood the concept, but after the fact, I wouldn't change a thing!
During the planning process I found a few pictures on Pinterest of other food truck weddings, but little guidance as to how to go about planning such an event. Another thing I noticed about the pictures is that they mostly took place in larger metropolitan areas, which Sioux Falls, South Dakota is not. Although our food truck options were limited, we had three trucks stationed at our reception to serve our 225 guests.
One thing that was critical to the success of our reception was the perfect venue. We found an industrial bar that had the perfect indoor outdoor space for the event. It has a large, open indoor space with large garage doors that led straight to a large patio. Off the patio was the perfect sized private parking lot to house the food trucks.
We had the food trucks set up in an "L" shape to create a private space. There was an entrance for guests. In the middle of the area, we scattered some pub tables for guests to mingle and eat. There was also seating for guests at traditional tables, around the bar, and on lounge type furniture inside.
Another important that helped to have a cohesive wedding reception was to incorporate the food truck idea into the overall theme. This started with custom invitations. The "logos" created on the invitations followed through to the wedding programs, stickers, and guestbook. All of this design work was done by Carmen Dyar of Minglewood Studios. In addition, kraft paper and newsprint were scattered throughout along with a silver-sage color.

Custom programs that show both "logos" as well as the silver sage color.
Disposable silverware packets with bamboo silverware. These tied in the color as well as the kraft paper and newsprint.
Food truck trays with food truck logo and newsprint liner
Our awesome chalkboard guestbook! Guests signed with black and white chalkboard markers, and it has now become a cool keepsake on display in our home.
We used kraft paper bags with our logo sticker on welcome bags that were in the hotel for guests as well as bags for the thank you gifts for our bridal party.

Food truck weddings are simply awesome. Last time we had a party at Chicago event venues but this time, really thinking to host my party with a food truck. I hope, I will be able to manage all things within my budget.
